about us

The Valport story.

Over the past 41 years, Valport has grown to become Canada’s largest “small port.”

It began in 1968 when The Port of Valleyfield began serving local industry. Our location drew an immediate clientele, and we established a definitive expertise in Arctic re-supply. Our strategy then was as it is now. Leverage our natural advantages. Offer comprehensive services. And support it with the best crew in the business.

Valport was officially formed in 1994 to manage operations at the Port of Valleyfield. The hiring of CEO Frank Dunn brought unique assets in both shipping and port management.

The past 15 years have seen rapid growth in Valport’s scope and depth. Our facilities have expanded tremendously. We’ve become a major hub for the Northeastern seaboard. We’ve also staged some of the world’s most elaborate industrial projects.

Today, Valport defines service, versatility, affordability and innovation. We continue to exceed even the most relentless logistic demands. We’ve added new offices. A climate-controlled warehouse. And a proprietary digital manifesting system. We’re also busy forging new paths in short sea transportation. Not to mention Arctic project cargo.

In the process, we’re also redefining what it means to be a small port.
