Valport Excited by the opening of Autoroute 30 this Weekend - Friday, December 14, 2012 :: ENGLISH
Port of Valleyfield: It's been years in the making but this weekend will see the first traffic cross the much anticipated Autoroute 30 which skirts the southern shores of Montreal. More specifically, this thoroughfare reduces the time required to traverse from Salaberry-de-Valleyfield to Montreal either via Autoroute 20 or along the south shore via Autoroute 30.

“This is wonderful news for Valport and the Port of Valleyfield as it takes about 1/3 the time to reach Montreal proper, or allows efficient access to skirt the city for the transportation of goods”, remarked Frank Dunn, President of Valport Maritime Services. “It seems like only yesterday that we received the steel in the port for the preliminary construction phase of the project. We moved tons of materials via barge and road and now it is complete. I believe all of our staff have purchased transponders as soon as they became available in anticipation of the opening of the Autoroute”.

With the opening of the Autoroute, Valport is only minutes to Châteauguay, Sainte-Catherine along the south shore and the Honoré-Mercier bridge, Champlain bridge or west to Vaudreuil-Dorion and the l'Île-aux-Tourtes bridge all leading into Montreal proper. Break bulk cargoes can now be consolidated at the Port of Valleyfield awaiting Seaway or export shipping. The highway also speeds up access to the Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport which is both beneficial when receiving clients who visit the port and for shipments requiring air cargo solutions.

Frank Dunn added, “this has been a few weeks of great news for our Port, we will have improved intermodal service with the expansion of the CSX Terminal and better access to and from the City of Montreal with the opening of Autoroute 30”.

Valport Maritime Services is the Port of Valleyfield management team providing support service including: logistics, stevedoring, marshalling, warehousing and staging of break bulk and bulk cargoes. The Port of Valleyfield is one of those rare gems when it comes to moving goods in and around Canada and the US. Canada’s largest “small” port.
